不二 (Bu-Er)

Exploring Non-Dualism Through Gong-bi Painting

“不二” is a collection of paintings about self exploration and Buddhist philosophies. In this project, I experiment with juxtaposing concepts such as light and heavy weight, darkness and lightness, the real and the imaginary, and life and death to meditate on nondualism in attempt to come closer to the “truth” I’m searching for. I use traditional Chinese gongbi painting techniques, and the aesthetics of the paintings draw inspiration from Tibetan Thangka paintings and Chinese Shan-Shui paintings. The process of making each painting served as a meditation in itself.
